About Women's Health ~ Breast Cancer and Me
- a Personal Letter to You

Breast cancer. The statistics are alarming: one in seven women will be affected by this disease. So, why in the world am I, a romance writer who believes in “happily ever after,” including this information on my website? Those of you who’ve read THE HOUSE ON THE BEACH, the first book in my Pilgrim Cove series from Harlequin Superromance, already know that I am one of those seven women. And because 95% of romance readers are women, I have chosen to spread the word.

It’s often said that we don’t know what we’re made of until we’ve been tested. Believe me, I wasn’t looking for a test! But I did learn more about myself since my diagnosis and wrote an article about my discoveries. That essay was published by Novelists, Inc. in their newsletter, NINK. Front page stuff! I’ve now posted it on my website for you to read--a direct link is below.

At the end of the article you’ll find hyperlinks to breast cancer websites where information can be relied upon. In addition, you’ll find information about ovarian cancer as well as links to informative websites. Finally, because searching the Internet for health care information is empowering, you will also find suggestions and pointers on how to search the Internet effectively.

Credit for these suggestions goes to Patricia F. Anderson, Head Librarian of the University of Michigan Dentistry Library and author of the Medical Library Association’s recently published guide to health on the Web. She is an expert in using the Internet for medical research. Link to the guide:

Patricia wrote to me after reading THE HOUSE ON THE BEACH and asked if I could use my website to make more information available to my readers. She was particularly concerned about getting the word out about ovarian cancer. Of course, I said yes!

Early detection is the most powerful weapon against all cancers. It worked for me. So, be vigilant! Live long. Love hard. And for goodness sake, don’t forget to laugh.

My best regards,
Linda

P.S. If any of you are published authors with at least two books in print, you are eligible to join Novelists, Inc., a wonderful organization for writers of genre fiction. Check them out at: www.ninc.com.
